In addition to the iPhone 14, Apple also unveiled new Apple Watches and AirPods Pro.
All of these gadgets are direct successors to those that came before them, but one of them goes a step further. Apple’s primary emphasis was on enhancing the look and performance of hardware and providing more details about planned additions.
iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus
Apple has made its iPhones smaller for the last two years, but that will not be the case this year. Since the iPhone XS Max is the larger of the two, the iPhone 14 keeps its 6.1-inch XDR OLED and becomes the more compact option. Apple has also released the larger iPhone 14 Plus, which has a 6.7-inch XDR OLED and is one of two new large-screen iPhone models. Every other aspect of the two phones is identical, and Apple even puts its A15 Bionic processor in each of them.
You now have a new 12-megapixel primary camera with a bigger f/1.5 aperture and improved Micron pixels. Although Apple claims a significant improvement in low-light photography, this is impossible to verify without actual testing. A more recent technique called “Photonic Engine” combines several exposures into one in order to create photos with higher resolution and more tonal range. With its new TrueDepth front camera, users can take sharper, quicker selfies. Additionally, an Action mode is available to lessen video jitter when filming in motion.
All of the iPhone 14 versions now have a satellite-based SOS emergency system. This is intriguing because it means that even if you are in an area with no cellular service, you can still contact someone by using a satellite. In November, it will hit store shelves in America and Canada. In addition, refurbished Apple phones in New Zealand will provide for free for a period of two years.
iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max
Apple got rid of the display cutout known as the notch and replaced it with a “dynamic island” that also functions as the device’s notification centre. By doing so, you may check on certain alerts without having to switch between applications. Contextual information, such as skipping a song, and real-time information, such as capturing audio or checking the score of a game, are both possible.
While their sizes remain the same, the screens on both phones have been updated. The iPhone 14 Pro comes in at 6.1 inches, while the 14 Pro Max expands to 6.7. Widgets may be placed on the lock screen and refurbished Apple phones in New Zealand are finally providing an always-on screen so that information can be seen without unlocking the device. The brightness of both displays will also be improved.
Like the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and the Google Tensor, Apple’s A16 Bionic processor was developed using a 4nm technology to maximize performance while minimizing energy use. The effects of this on video and still photography are significant.
The new sensor has 48 megapixels, which is 65% more than the old one. Apple claims a doubling of low-light picture quality. The low-light performance of the updated 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera is expected to be boosted by a factor of three. At the same time, we anticipate a twofold increase in the 12-megapixel telephoto camera’s performance.
Apple’s ProRAW allows you to shoot at the full 48-megapixel resolution, which is ideal for people who like a higher degree of creative freedom. Some machine learning is used to aid in rendering the photographs, but the final result of shooting in RAW is dependent on the photographer’s post-capture editing.
The addition of support for 4K at 24 frames per second in Cinematic mode is a welcome improvement. You may also use the Action mode on this iPhone 14, just as on the other iPhones of the same generation.
AirPods Pro (2nd Gen)
Apple has made minor tweaks to the drivers and microphone positioning of the AirPods Pro (2nd Gen), but otherwise, they have maintained the same design. The manufacturer boasts that compared to its ancestors, its new earphones are twice as effective in blocking outside sounds. Meanwhile, despite Transparency being active, very loud environmental sounds will be muted thanks to Adaptive Transparency.
The volume may be adjusted by sliding your finger up or down the stem. Though Apple claims that your ears will detect an improvement in sound quality, just how big of an improvement is unknown. The return of Spatial Audio promises improved clarity and resonance whether listening to or seeing surround sound media.
Apple upgraded the battery life, claiming up to six hours of listening time with the new earphones (with ANC turned off, of course). Keeping it on will result in a lower bill. This case provides an additional four counts to be filed. If you’ve lost the case, Precision Finding can help you track it down. The lanyard loop on the case makes it easy to have them on you at all times.
New Apple Watch models
Three new Watch models from Apple? That came as a bit of a surprise. After the success of the Series 7, the Series 8 Apple Watch may be the most sought-after. You receive a watch that can withstand water, dust, and cracks, with some added bonuses.
Apple’s 2019 update to its Menstruation app includes a skin temperature sensor that may be used to predict ovulation. An alert may be sent from the watch if there is a variation in the user’s cycle (needs iOS 16 on an iPhone to show on the phone). The sensor’s indication of a problem with temperature changes is not limited to women’s health.
Crash Detection is another brand-new function. The watch will immediately contact emergency services if it detects that you were involved in an automobile accident. There is an emphasis on frontal, side, rear, and rollover collisions.
However, Fall and Crash Detection, as well as SOS Emergency, are always enabled, even when Low Power Mode is used, so as to save battery life. International roaming will be possible with cellular models. The watch should work with your current roaming plan if you add it. During the keynote, no Canadian airlines were mentioned; maybe this will be an added bonus in the future.
